Characters of Mahabharat- How it can be compared to present day Management

Introduction

I am back to writing on comparing Mahabharat to modern management. Each characted in Mahabharat has relevance to our day to day coropoate and professional life. In life we always aspire to follow some role models and some people we should not follow. I summarised some characters based on my analysis.

Duryodhana   CEO who practised negative management and negative tactics and never listened to     anybody except to his handpicked advisors and plotted his own failure.

Duschasana     Deputy CEO whose only goal is to nod his head for CEO.

Bheeshma       Non-Executive Chairman who could not prevent the wrongdoings of CEO due to excessive loyalty to the CEO. Considered loyalty to CEO is loyalty to the Organisation.

Dridharashtra   Executive Chairman who did not take any advise seriously and blindfolded due to his     loyalty and affection to son. First example of failure due to inability to correct “conflict of interest”

Drona              Independent Director who could not correct his CEO due to his own conflict and blind loyalty to individual than to organisation. Again failure due to inability to correct conflict of interest.

Vidhura          Whistle blower and “go to” man to communicate most uncomfortable issues to opponents.

Karna-            Brand not fulfilled its potential despite all best qualities due to bad strategy, poor loyalty and aligning with wrong brands.

Aswathama     Failed Strategist as he used emotions at wrong time. Though all qualities of being a good strategist not able to position himself to plot his elevation in organisation.

Sakuni              Cunning strategist who was responsible for plotting the downfall of his own CEO.

Salliyan           Used by Opponents in others camp and helped competition more than his own group. The spy who loved me. Spy in an opponent camp.

Lord Krishna Leader in true spirit who did not have any tile. Proved to the world that leadership is responsibility and not authority. Classical mentor who mixed advice and acted tough as and when required and ensured that his mentees achieve success.

Yudhishtir       CEO who always listened to his Mentor and his ministers and preferred most ethical organisation.

Bheema           A bully in executing the strategy devised by mentor for his CEO and carried the team on his shoulders at difficult times.

Arjun              Mr. Dependable for his CEO and who sub-ordinated his skill sets for the benefit organisation and who followed his Mentor words in letter and spirit.

Nakula            Silent team player.

Sahadev          Mr. Whistle blower for his team and visionary who knows the future but preferred to follow back seat approach.

Draupadi        Mother of POSH- invoked POSH in her own way and made sure that people who committed offence under POSH goes punished. First person who invoke POSH when it was not law and made sure that person who defame women gets punished.

Vikarna          Loyal to leader despite knowing leader is at fault. Conflicted between conscience and commitment and chose the commitment finally.

Yuutsu            Deserted his brother camp to opponent camp to uphold his principles.

Abhimanyu    A great player but got into problem due to deceit and cunnings of competition. Lesson unless we have a full knowledge never get into battle based on the assurance or commitment of support by others.

Sisubala          Performer but did not correct his mistakes despite opportunities given and hence annihilated by leader.

Kunti              Responsible for failure of a brand “Karna” though successful in protecting other brands with the help of mentor and leader. Surrendered to leader to ensure the success of her own brands at a cost of one of her brand. Poor brand Manager.

Gandhari       Faithful follower of a leader and not willing to change the leader nor able to persuade Executive Chairman. Wasted all opportunities and hence could not prevent bloodbath.

Conclusion    The idea is to present some characters in positive light and negative light due to their acts which is a lesson for all of us.
